Getting "Printer Sharing Fails error 0x000003e3"

THE BELOW STEPS SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED BY A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN.

!!!BE SURE TO BACKUP THE REGISTRY HIVE YOU ARE MAKING CHANGES TO BEFORE CONTINUING. !!!

  1. On the PC the printer is connected to, open up Regedit.exe, using the run box on the Start Menu.
  2. make a registry change on the print server to make Windows see it as a Packaged driver
  3. If you change the value of the key PrinterDriverAttributes under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windowsx64\Drivers\...\Driver name\ and restart the print server, you are able to make Windows treat the driver as packaged, and it will install unattended with GPO. The hex number has to be odd, i.e. 41
  4. Restart the computer that the printer is connected to, and test that you can add the printer through the Control Panel, on the computer you were not able to before.

If The Above Solution Does Not Work, Please Try The Following Fix:

  • This issue occurs because, after the printer is installed, Windows 10 or Windows 7 incorrectly looks for the Mscms.dll file in a subfolder different than the windows\system32 subfolder.
  • we have to share the "Spooler printer directory" of the server machine.
  • Share both sets of permissions with the Everyone group, and the NETWORK group. See below for the steps.
  1. '''Share Permissions'''
  2. On explorer, go to C:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS
  3. Right click, Properties
  4. Sharing tab
  5. Advanced Sharing
  6. Check "Share this folder"
  7. Permissions
  8. Grant everyone Full Control
  9. '''NTFS Permissions'''
  10. On explorer, go to C:\windows\system32\spool\printers
  11. Right click, Properties
  12. Security tab
  13. Edit
  14. Add
